New Delhi: Potential hydrogen or pH is the acidic level of any part of the body and a pH scale helps to determine the pH level. The skin is naturally a bit acidic but there are other factors such as the environment or the skincare products that you use that can have an influence on the pH of your skin. It is extremely important that you maintain a healthy pH balance.
The pH scale ranges somewhere between 1 and 14, where 1 is considered to be strongly acidic and 14 is considered to be strongly alkaline. 7 is considered to be neutral, however, your skin is not supposed to be neutral. It can range somewhere between 4 and 7 which indicates that your skin is healthy. Your skin is the largest organ of the body and it is important that you take adequate care of it. Here are a few tips to maintain a healthy pH balance.
  1. Use gentle cleansers: Make sure that the cleansers that you use are not stripping your skin of the oils. However, if you have acne-prone skin, you could use a cleanser that’s slightly acidic in nature to get rid of the excess oil and sebum.
  2. Use a toner: After cleansing your face, use a toner on your face and that’ll help to tone your skin. It can also work to remove any alkalinity present in the skin.
  3. Use a moisturiser: Moisturising your skin is an important aspect of skincare and you should always keep your skin well-moisturised. A moisturised skin has a healthy pH level.
